Icarus Effect Self Levitation

I’ve just seen a new self-levitation effect called the ‘Icarus Effect’. You can see a video of it in action [here->http://www.icaruseffect.com/home.html]. It looks similar to the Balducci levitation made popular by David Blaine.

It looks great, an amazing effect, but I really can’t see what type of performer it is aimed at (apart from one with a lot of spare cash lying around).

You can only perform it to one person directly in front of you and it looks like you both have to be stood in front of a step. All for about £230. Bargain! At least the blurb on the site is up front about the performing restrictions. Who’s going to use it? A stage illusionist? Surely they would take advantage of the stage set up. A street magician? With no one behind or beside them? Amateurs? With £230 spare?

There seems to be more and more of these one-off effects that look amazing in the advertising video coming out on the magic market. So, I suppose there must be people out there buying them.

It could be amazing, it could be the reaction you get from one person makes it all worth while. But I’m too cynical to buy this now, I have boxes full of stuff that looked great in the advert, tucked away in the loft.
