Magic for small parties
On Saturday I was the magician at a Summer Party for an RAF base in Lincolnshire. Unfortunately, because of the weather and the football, the ticket sales were down and there were only fifteen odd people in the audience!
So I went into my ‘Magic for Small Parties’ show - something which I am getting to perform more often and which makes a nice change from big events. At bigger events with 100+ guests there is obviously less time to spend with each group of people and the magic you can perform is a little restricted. You have to perform material that is easy to repeat, easy to carry round and where the magic happens quickly.
At small parties I perform two twenty-five minute close-up magic shows to everyone at the same time. It’s great because I can perform longer routines (after getting everyone’s attention with something quick and visual) and I don’t have to worry about being able to repeat them over and over.
My favourite longer routine at the moment is my version of the coin in bottle, which doesn’t sound very long, but actually involves producing the bottle (and a bottle opener and glass of water) from an empty paper bag, making the signed coin vanish and reappear a couple of times before penetrating the sealed bottle, getting the coin out of the bottle, the coin growing to five times it’s size and then being found in my wallet.
Phew!
