People’s Reaction to Magic
There are some people who just have to have an explanation when they see magic. Even if what they come up with is extraordinary, sometimes more incredible than what the magician has just shown them!
I had finished my stint of close-up magic at a party on Saturday night and was on my way out when the host introduced me to a lady who had arrived late and said “One more before you go…”
I said OK, I’ll do something quick and took out my cards. The lady chose one and looked at it, put it back in the pack and I put the cards away. I thought for a moment, made her concentrate on the card etc. etc, and told her which one it was.
The lady said to the host “You’re in on this! You told him over my shoulder!”.
So the host moves away, out came the cards, and we try again. I tell her the card she is thinking of and this time she turns and looks suspiciously at her friends - who arrived with her.
So much for a quick bit of magic.
We go for a third time. This time I tell her not to let anyone see the card and I turn away as she does this and puts the cards back in the card box.
I again tell her the card she is thinking of.
The lady said “I bet everyone always chooses the same cards.”
Yep that’s it. It makes magic so easy.
