Magic for the Deaf at a Wedding

I was performing close-up magic at a wedding last weekend and I was beckoned over to a table where about half the audience were deaf.

I haven’t a huge amount of experience performing for the deaf, but I have learnt to adapt my normal style a little. I try perform more visual magic which doesn’t involve too much talking and, when I do talk, I try to explain things as simply as possible and a bit slower, so that someone can sign for me and it makes lip reading easier.

Odd Magician Enquiries

I had a strange phone enquiry last night. A reporter from a national newspaper (one of those with a red top) called and said “Are you the magician?” and I said yes, I am the only magician in the world. (Well, I thought that. I actually just said “Yes” rather cautiously). (more…)

I’ve updated my [main site->http://www.dangifford.com/wedding-websites.htm] this week, but it’s been a while and I couldn’t remember exactly how I made it work!

I had to go back to [www.yourhtmlsource.com->http://www.yourhtmlsource.com/] which I originally used to get my head around CSS. It’s a great site and I highly recommend it if you want to learn HTML and CSS. It is very clearly laid out, making it easy to find specific information and has very clear descriptions of CSS techniques.

I might do a more thorough review of this site when I have more time…

Weddings - The Best Gigs?

This weekend, one of my gigs was a wedding which went really well, and in general, weddings tend to be one of the more enjoyable gigs.

Weddings are very happy occasions, everyone is there to celebrate and keen to be entertained - which is perfect for me. But the main reason why weddings tend to be good gigs is because of the wide range of ages in the audience.
