Keyword Research Part 2 - Fine Tune Your List of Keywords

You now have a list of maybe 10 key phrases. You now need to find out how many people actually search for these phrases and how many other pages are competing for them.

[Wordtracker->http://www.wordtracker.com/] and [Overture->http://inventory.uk.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/] are the two main sites that provide search data. You can access both these tools for free on the Digital Point Solutions [keyword suggestion tool->http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/].

Not only does this tool tell you how many people search for perticular keyphrases, but it also suggests alternative key phrases, which you can add to your list.

Finally, you should check to see how many pages are competing for each of the keyphrases in your list. This is easy because all the search engines say the total number of pages they find when you perform a search - in Google it is at the top of the page where it says ‘Results 1-10 of about x’, where x is the number of pages competing for that key phrase.
